WordPress Is Getting Into AI… And It Made Me Stop and Think
November 21, 2025
I went down a rabbit hole the other day.
Simple question:
“Is WordPress getting into AI?”
So I searched it.

Then I searched:
“WordPress AI website builder”

And that’s when it clicked.
This isn’t coming.
WordPress has had a dedicated AI team since May of 2025.
When you think about it, you’ve got:
- Built-in AI assistants
- AI site generators
Entire ecosystems forming around it
And then on top of that…
You’ve got tools like:
All pushing in the same direction.
So now the question isn’t:
“Will AI change web design?”
It’s:
What does this actually mean for people like us?
I’ve Been Using AI Since The Beginning
I jumped into AI early.
Like… really early.
A few months after ChatGPT came out.
Back when it was:
hallucinating like crazy
getting things wrong constantly
still kind of a toy
And even then… I saw it.
I didn’t use it to replace thinking.
I used it to:
- dump ideas
- structure thoughts
- write rough drafts
- organize chaos
- speed up workflows
Then I refined everything.
That became the pattern.
AI does the heavy lifting.
I shape it.
And that hasn’t changed.
The Part Nobody Talks About
There’s something AI still doesn’t have.
And I don’t think it ever fully will.
- Taste
- Judgment
- Restraint
- Original thought
AI can generate.
But it doesn’t decide well.
It doesn’t know:
- what to remove
- what to simplify
- what actually matters
That part is still human.
And that’s where the value is shifting.
See how we did it →
So Where Does WordPress Fit Into This?
This is where it got interesting for me.
Because WordPress isn’t ignoring AI.
They’re leaning into it.
Hard.
They’re building:
- AI assistants inside the platform
- text-to-site builders
- plugin ecosystems around AI workflows
You can even see their direction starting to show in things
like: https://wordpress.com/ai-website-builder/
So now you’ve got two worlds colliding:
Traditional web design
AI-generated websites
And naturally…
That brings up the question.
Is This Replacing Designers?
Short answer:
No.
But it is replacing bad work.
The kind of work that:
- has no strategy
- has no positioning
- looks like every other template
- exists just to “have a website”
That part?
Yeah… AI is going to eat that.
But real work?
The kind that actually drives revenue?
That’s not going anywhere.
Because clients don’t actually want:
“A website”
They want:
Leads
Sales
Growth
Clarity
And AI doesn’t solve that by itself.
This Is Where It Gets Weird (Ethics)
This is the first time I’ve actually paused.
Not because of the tech.
But because of the shift.
Back in 2022:
Google was basically against AI content.
Then…
They launched their own.
Now it’s everywhere.
So what changed?
Not the ethics.
The leverage.
And that’s something to pay attention to.
How I’m Looking At This Moving Forward
I don’t see AI as a replacement.
I see it as:
A collaborator.
Use it to:
- move faster
- explore ideas
- remove friction
- handle repetition (um, yes please!)
But don’t let it decide everything.
Because the edge now is:
- How well you think.
- How well you refine.
- How well you see what others don’t.
That’s not going away.
The Real Opportunity
This is where most people will get it wrong.
They’ll either:
Ignore AI completely
or
Depend on it completely
Both are bad moves.
The real goal is:
Use AI for speed
Layer it with:
- experience
- taste
- strategy
That combination?
That’s hard to beat.
Final Thought
AI is changing how websites get built.
That part is obvious.
What’s not obvious is this:
The value is moving up the chain.
Less about:
“Can you build it?”
More about:
“Do you know what to build… and why?”
That’s where the next wave is.
So before you touch your website… make sure you’re building the right thing.
We’ll audit your site and show you exactly what’s working, what’s not, and what to fix.
